More than 10 months into the pandemic, mental health is a simmering crisis for many of the nation s schoolchildren, partly hidden by isolation but increasingly evident in the distress of parents, the worries of counselors and an early body of research.
Holed up at home, students dwell in the glare of computer screens, missing friends and teachers. Some are failing classes. Some are depressed. Some are part of families reeling with lost jobs, gaps in child care or bills that can t be paid.

LIBERTY CO., Ga. (WTOC) - The Fort Stewart soldier arrested on terrorism charges was in court Thursday.
Around 7 a.m., Cole Bridges was transferred from the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office to appear in federal court later Thursday.
Prosecutors say Bridges spoke online about plots to blow up New York City’s 9/11 Memorial, as well as plans to attack U.S. soldiers in the Middle East. They say Bridges thought he was communicating with terrorists online but it turned out to be FBI agents.
In Savannah, extra precautions are being taken with local officials on high alert just in case anything happens Wednesday as our nation swears in a new president.
